What Makes a Stainless Steel Cookware Set Your Best Choice

With so many cookware on the market today it is hard for consumers to know what cookware in the best. You may have even heard that a Stainless Steel Cookware set is best but do you actually know why? Well, it all boils down to three major factors. Durability, Health benefits and Value for Money.

These pots will last a lifetime with no extra ordinary special care. Stainless steel (SS) does not stain, corrode, or rust . It is not subject to flaking, peeling or wear-off due to rubbing, nor does it rust when scratched.

Cookware Set

You can put the pots in the dishwasher or scrub with steel wool and year after year these pots will still look new. I've even dropped my pots occasionally and they have endured no dents. There are different grades and surface finishes of this metal which is use to make cookware. The more common references for cookware are 18/0, 18/8 and 18/10. And more recently I am seeing some cookware labeled Surgical Steel.

The numbers represent the ratio or chromium to nickel. Nickel stabilizes the metal and makes it harder. Therefore, the higher the 2nd number, which is the nickel ratio, the harder and heavier the cookware will be. Naturally, a harder and heavier cookware will indeed make a better more durable pot.

Interestingly, a little known fact of stainless steel is that tanks and tankers used to transport orange juice and other foods are often made of stainless steel due to it's corrosion resistance and antibacterial properties. This just goes to show that your stainless steel cookware material is not sloughing off in your food.

This makes for a more healthy alternative, than other types of cookware material.

When buying this kind of Cookware Set, look for the heaviest that you can buy. When I say heavy, I'm not talking cast iron kind of heavy because SS is a much lighter metal. But feel the weight of the different pots or look for 18/10 on the label. Even if you can't afford 18/10, buying any kind of SS pots is much better than buying the other kinds. It will save your health in the long run.

Good stainless steel pots will most likely last a lifetime. My set of stainless steel pots have lasted well over 20 years and I use them almost every day. This is one of the main reasons for my passion for this specific type of cookware.

You can't beat beauty that will last a lifetime. So, if you are considering acquiring new cookware, consider no other than a stainless steel cookware set.

There is also a sturdy revolving turntable on which you place food to be cooked or heated and this too is made of heat-resistant glass, which is probably not unbreakable, so don't drop it while cleaning.

Traditionally, the best cookware to use when cooking in a microwave oven is glass. The glass cookware designed for this purpose is thick, sturdy and heat - resistant, anything you can use in an oven can most certainly be used in a microwave. What you want to be careful of however is cookware that has metal plating around it, often metal, silver or gold inlay which can cause your microwave to spark while heating food and is unsafe for cooking. How To Care For Cast Iron Cookware

A brand new set of cast iron cookware presents a possibility for some of the best culinary creating in the world. Offering a down home taste and a simple way to create masterpieces in the kitchen, this type of cookware is amazingly versatile, but does require a little know how to learn how to use.

Cast iron cookware is handled differently than any other kind of cooking equipment out there. These pots and pans will require special treatment before the first meal is ever placed in them. The process to prepare these pans for cooking is known as seasoning.

Cookware Set

The seasoning of cast iron cookware can be handled in a few different ways. The two main methods are:

* Straight oiling. In this process of preparing cast iron cookware, oil, fat or even lard is rubbed into the pans and then wiped off to a slight extent. The pans are then used to cook foods that are naturally greasy for the first few times out of the box. Food such as bacon, fatty sausage and so on is ideal. This is recommended to be done at least five to seven times before trying to cook something else.

* Oiling and baking in. This is the most common method for seasoning cast iron cookware. In this method, the pan is oiled or greased and then it's baked in an oven at roughly 225 degrees for about a half hour. The pan is then removed and wiped out slightly. The pan is then returned to the over for another half hour or so. Even with this method, it is still recommended the first few things cooked in the pan be rather fatty by design.

Once cast iron has been properly seasoned, it's capable of being used to cook almost anything. Many cooks use their cast iron pans to do everything from frying chicken to actually baking corn bread or biscuits. These versatile cooking items are ideal for stove-top cooking and baking, as well.

Cleaning cast iron will require a method that most stainless steel cooks might find rather unusual. Instead of tossing it in a dishwasher or scrubbing and scraping it out, this type of cookware requires a delicate touch to ensure the seasoning isn't lost.

To clean cast iron cookware, all that really is recommended is a good boiling of water in the pan. Once the water is boiled, it's removed and the pan is wiped out. It's that simple.

If this process doesn't get rid of stuck on food, these pans can be scraped, but if the seasoning is harmed in the process, it's a good idea to redo that process to ensure a well-cooked meal the next time around. To preserve the seasoning and the pan itself, food should not be stored in cast iron.

Cast iron cookware provides one surefire way to obtain a good, down home flavor out of food. Ideal for frying, stewing and even baking, these pans do require special treatment. Cast iron isn't quite like anything else out there for flavoring and even cleaning.

Cook With Style Using Stainless Steel Copper Bottom Cookware

If you want your kitchen to look just as good as those remarkable entrees you make, you will definitely want to consider adding an assortment of stainless steel copper bottom cookware items to your collection. These pots and pans have that classic, warm, rustic kitchen look that professional crave yet are still completely at home in kitchens with a more modern design.

That's not the only reason to purchase stainless steel copper bottom cookware, however. In fact, it probably isn't even the best reason to make the investment. The real beauty of these pots and pans lies in the cooking experience itself. Copper does a few important things better than any other popular kitchenware metal.

Cookware Set

Stainless steel copper bottom cookware doesn't make use of two metals for purely aesthetic reasons. That copper is on the bottom for a few reasons. Let's look at how that thin layer of copper under those stainless steel bodies can transform your time at the stove.

First, it's an excellent conductor and it spreads heat more evenly than a master chef can spread pate on a cracker. The copper absorbs the heat and allow it radiate across the whole of the cooking area's underside. If you're ever forced to deal with pans that don't heat evenly, you'll immediately appreciate this benefit of this cookware.

Second, it's incredibly responsive to temperature fluctuations. If you turn up the gas, your stainless steel copper bottom cookware will get hotter, just like that. The same holds true if you need a pan's temperature to drop relatively quickly. Just turn your burner knob and the pan will handle the rest without intervention. It may take a few meals to grow accustomed to the way copper flatly refuses to retain its temperature, but once you develop a sense of how it responds, you'll love the precision with which you can cook.

In addition to good looks and good cooking, this cookware is also well known for its light weight. If you're sick and tired of struggling with cast iron equipment that weighs more than a month's worth of groceries, you're going to love the featherweight nature of copper bottom gear. The difference between these pots and those made of other metals is tremendous. You can really change the feel of your cooking experience with these lightweight pans. Just be careful, you don't want the first flapjack you flip to become a permanent part of your kitchen ceiling!

All of these considerations merge to create a compelling case for stainless steel copper bottom cookware.

When you have copper on the bottom of the pan, you have a light, attractive and incredibly smart way to cook. If you're not using stainless steel copper bottom cookware, you're missing out on an awesome kitchen experience!

Cookware Buying Guide

Cookware Sets

Great cookware is one of the best investment you will make. There are so many choices and picking the right product can be difficult.

Cookware Set

First you should determine what kid of cooking do you do, and how many people do you cook for? Your choice of cookware should be built on choosing basic pieces first and then adding specialty pans as needed.

First think you should look at in purchasing cookware is the type of material they are made from. You need to look at construction of the cookware set. An essential quality you should look for in all cookware is weight. A heavy pot or pan will sit securely on the burner. Just make sure it is easy for you to lift.

Types of Cookware Material

Aluminum: Aluminum is the most popular material in cookware. It is an excellent heat conductor and spreads heat evenly through the pan. Aluminum can be anodized to harden the surface. Hard-anodized cookware is harder than steel and is extremely durable. Plus, it is dishwasher safe. This type of cookware is also very inexpensive compared to other materials. The drawback of it is if the aluminum is untreated, it is prone to staining and reacting with foods. For this reason, we highly recommend aluminum with a non-stick interior, because it is much less likely to discolor or react with foods.

Carbon steel: Caron steel is used in very expensive cookware as well as some of the least expensive cookware. It is maintained like cast iron, but it is much lighter in weight. It works well for cooking that requires quick heat changes because it maintains its temperature well. The most common pans made out of this material are Woks and Stir-Fry Pans.

Cast iron: Cast iron is very thick and heavy duty. Even though it takes a bit longer to heat up, it retains and distributes heat evenly. If you are browning, braising, stewing, slow cooking and baking, this would be the best choice for you. Cast iron comes in bare iron or with enamel coating.

Bare iron needs to be seasoned before use. The seasoning process will give your pots and pans a nonstick surface that lasts forever. Once seasoned avoid soaking and washing with soap. The best way to clean cast iron is to wipe them with a clean cloth.

Enamel-coated cast iron provides all the benefits of cast iron. The advantage of this type of cast ion is it requires less maintenance and cleaning. However, some foods do not cook well in cast iron. Acidic foods will react with it and will strip off the seasoning. In that case you just have to reason your pan again.

Ceramic: Ceramic cookware is a great insulator, so it does not react quickly to heat. It can usually be found in the form of casserole dish or other shapes that are great for cooking slowly at a constant temperature. It is lighter than cast iron, but also more fragile. There are three categories: porcelain, stoneware and earthenware.

Porcelain is the strongest of all three and it is fired to become very hard and durable. It can usually be used on the stove, in the oven and in the microwave.

Earthenware is less strong and prone to chipping and scratching. This type is usually used as a serveware.

Clad: Using two types of cookware materials together to get all the benefits of both materials develops clad cookware. Most of the time, stainless steel is clad with aluminum. Aluminum gives you the thickness and excellent heat conductivity and stainless steel prevents it from corrosion and it is easy to maintain. This type of cookware will last you a lifetime. Only downsize of this type of cookware is that it is generally heavy and very expensive.

Copper: Copper is the best conductor of heat. It is the best if you are cooking on top of the stove, where you have to control the temperature. Copper, however, can react with foods and can be toxic. Therefore, copper pots and pans are usually lined with another material, which is usually stainless steel. The biggest disadvantage of using copper is maintenance. Copper can discolor, so once in a while you need to polish it to remove discoloration. Also, copper tends to dent and scratch easily.

Stainless Steel: Stainless steel is a very good all around general-purpose cookware. It is light weight, durable and easy to clean. It is, however, poor conductor of heat so usually many stainless steel pieces are made with a copper or aluminum disc on the bottom to help distribute heat more evenly. Because of its smooth surface, stainless steel is easy to clean and it is dishwasher safe. It you notice some kind of discoloration, you can use a stainless steel cleanser that restores the natural luster. Metal utensils can be used on stainless steel or aluminum surface.

Nonstick: Nonstick cookware has a coating inside the pan that makes it difficult for food to stick to it. This makes it easy to cook healthy, non-fact foods. Because food does not stick, it is very easy to clean. It can be found in combination with many metals that produce cookware. The disadvantage of this type of cookware is that it can be easily scratched. Stainless steel or other utensils can scratch the pan so it is highly recommended to use bylon silicone utensils.

Now that you know everything about cookware, it is time to go shopping.

Waterless Cookware

Waterless cooking is increasingly becoming a popular method of cooking. It has a number of advantages over conventional cooking. Ease of cooking, reduced time of cooking, ease of cleaning, and the taste of the cooked food are some of the reasons why their popularity is on the rise.

Waterless cookware aids in easy cooking and seems to take less time than conventional cooking. Since the heat is evenly distributed, burning or sticking is avoided. This results in the cookware being easier to clean. One need not use oil to prevent sticking in waterless cookware. And finally since the food gets cooked in its natural juices, the taste is always delicious and the food is also nutritious.

Cookware Set

Waterless cookware is made of high grade stainless steel. This prevents the taste from the metal to leach into the food. Stainless steel is also easy to clean. Another thing with high grade stainless steel is that it does not require any coating like Teflon, which can get into food sometimes.

Another aspect of waterless cookware items is that their bottoms are machined flat. This enables more surface area to be in contact with the coils of an electric stove. This results in even distribution of heat. This even distribution prevents spots that can burn the food. Foods are cooked with their own natural juices in waterless cookware. This means that the vitamins and minerals are retained. Since vegetables already contain a large quantity of water, there is no need to add water in waterless cookware. Water is released from the vegetables on cooking and is turned into steam. The steam is contained in the pot with the use of a lid. The steam actually helps in the entire process of waterless cooking.

Once the steam is sufficient, a whistle notifies the cook, during which point you can turn off the heat. This way you tend to save energy and time too. One can find a number of online resources, which can equip you with the basics of waterless cookware. You can also find more about them from your friends or family members, who can give you valuable information on waterless cooking.
